Why Coaching Works Better than Me Coming Over
For more than 30 years, I worked side by side with clients in their homes. I'd come over for a 3 or 4 hour session, and we'd get a LOT done. Closets emptied. Piles sorted. Bags out the door.
And my clients were exhausted. They'd promise to keep going on their own until my next visit. But they almost never did. Why would they? They knew I was coming back to walk them through it. Waiting for me felt easier than doing it alone.
Over time I noticed four things that changed how I work.
It cost them a lot. One 4-hour visit from me runs about $500, plus travel. That adds up fast on a whole-house project. For about the same price as one visit, a client can get a full month of coaching, with a written plan, weekly calls, and support in between.
Nobody works 3 or 4 hours on their own. Real life doesn't work that way. A focused hour with clear goals is something you can actually do, and then do again next week. That's especially true if you have ADHD like I do.
Life doesn't fit my calendar. So many of my clients want to work early in the morning, late at night, on weekends, or over a holiday. Lining up two busy schedules slowed everything down.
Changing the house wasn't enough. This one surprised me the most. When we were busy doing the physical work, there was no time to talk about habits, skills, or how to make decisions. I was changing their house, but I wasn't changing them. So when the next move or big life event came along, everything slid right back.
That's why I added coaching. Now you work in short, focused bursts, on your own schedule. Each week you know exactly what to do next. I check in, help you troubleshoot, and keep you moving. And you learn how to do this yourself, so it sticks at this house and the next one.
You still do the work. You just never have to figure out what to do next on your own.
